  1. I am struck by the fact that these adjectives all describe obvious conditions. How could a person be unaware of their own wretchedness? the very word denotes a condition apparent to everyone. How can we mistake poverty for riches? How could we be naked and blind with out realizing that something is wrong?

The image that comes to mind of a person literally in this condition is a drug addict. I have known a few people who thought hey were fine as long as they had access to their drugs. They truly were unaware of their wretchedness. They lost jobs, family, and health. They were reduced to poverty and almost nakedness. They were certainly blind to reality.

This makes me wonder again if we are being satisfied with something other God. Something that pulls us away from God and slowly destroys us while soothing us with a siren song.

Drug addicts don't get help until they really hit bottom. When they crash head on with the disaster of their own lives, open their eyes to there own desperate hopelessness, and realize that they are in need of help then they are ready to receive what they really need.
